2023 Fall Membership Meeting
September 14, 2023Annapolis, Maryland (June 15, 2023) – The Anne Arundel County Association of REALTORS® (AACAR) supports over 3,000 members who serve the greater Anne Arundel County area. AACAR is a membership organization consisting of REALTORS® and Affiliate members. The Equal Opportunity and Cultural Diversity (EOCD) Committee is one of the several volunteer-led committees AACAR members can
join.
The vision of the Equal Opportunity and Cultural Diversity Committee is to promote equal opportunity in housing and real estate, develop programs that inform and promote awareness of cultural diversity among members, with the public, and in partnership with other real estate organizations. This year, the committee hosted an Inaugural Poster Contest and invited AACAR brokerages and affiliates to create a poster with their interpretation of what equal opportunity and cultural diversity mean to the real estate community. Proceeds from the contest were donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County.
On May 16th, the Committee hosted an exhibit showcasing the collection of creative posters from six different offices. Each piece sparked thought-provoking conversations about the meaning of equal opportunity and cultural diversity. Participating offices included the Annapolis and Severna Park offices of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty, 1st Choice Property Management, Eagle Title, Community Title Network, and TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.
The exhibit included great food, drinks, music, and wonderful conversations. The People's Choice award went to Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty – Severna Park. Their interactive poster was made possible by Jenn Honeycutt, Sue Steward, Jessica Hood, Angela Demattia, Laura Roskelly, Vivian Miner, Berry Wiss, Jill Rudiger, Jennifer Yeatts, Joe Bray, Shanetta Kindred, and Lynn Tuozzo. The poster will be framed and displayed in the AACAR training room for members to interact with year-round.
“Thank you to everyone who came to the exhibit and to all those who helped make it possible,” said Robert Johnston, AACAR’s CEO. “We’re proud to display these posters of in the lobby of the AACAR building.”
“Thanks to all who contributed to this contest. A special thank you to Cheryl Odell-Duffy for leading the project. We love when members can come together to contribute the ongoing conversation about the importance equal opportunity and cultural diversity -- all while raising money for a wonderful organization” said Betty Jans, AACAR Treasurer and Chair of the EOCD Committee.
On June 15th, representatives from the Equal Opportunity and Cultural Diversity Committee presented $550 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County.
